In addition, the alarming rate of violence and torture against children continues in Bangladesh. Physical, sexual and psychological abuse is a serious concern. Child marriage and child trafficking are also common issues. Over the past 20 years, we have succeeded in raising awareness about the effects of violence.
51% of girls in Bangladesh are married before their 18th birthday and 22% are married before the age of 15. 4% of boys are married before the age of 18. Child marriage is more common in rural areas where 60% of girls are married before age 18, compared to 55% in urban areas.
In order to achieve the vision of Compassion International Bangladesh, we work on the followings for targeted 40,000 children and youths in 174 different communities all over Bangladesh.
- Protecting beneficiaries from the high-risk issues: Child Marriage, Child Labor, Physical and Sexual Abuse.
- Responding to any abuse incident: Legal support, Trauma Healing.
- Providing high quality child protection education for beneficiaries.
- Providing high quality caregiver education.
- Implementing child protection standards for visits.
- Capacity development of the partner’s staffs and community child workers.
- Identifying other resources provided by local governments, partnerships or alliances.
